Boardies Day @ SUMO
On Friday 3rd of December, along with thousands across the country, SUMO participated in National Boardies Day. We bared our lovely (winter induced) white legs and proudly paraded around in board shorts & thongs to celebrate the start of summer and raise vital funds for our Aussie Surf Lifesavers, who do a great job each year keeping our beautiful beaches safe.
Donations from the day are directed into four main areas requiring ongoing funding; rescue gear and equipment, surf lifesaving training, first aid supplies, and surf safety community education. As we all love a day on the beach, we wanted to give our lifesavers a bit of a helping hand.
Did you know that …
- Last season, Surf Lifesavers performed 12,541 rescues
- In addition they administered first aid to 21,407 people and carried out 235,612 preventative actions
Although a little disorganised (only discovering the event 2 days prior) we managed to raise a little over $55 from the day. And what better way to celebrate the day, in true Aussie style, by finishing it off with 4:30pm Beer o’clock. It can go without saying we’re eagerly anticipating 2011 National Boardies Day!
